This Day in Humor with Mike Durrett


Born 1931: Dean Jones, comic actor and leading man, whose name became synonymous with Walt Disney Productions in the '60s and '70s (1965's "That Darn Cat," 1969's "The Love Bug," 1971's "$1,000,000 Duck"). He also starred as the title character on TV's "Ensign O'Toole" (1962-64).

1951: An influential cartoon in terms of its unique animation style, "Gerald McBoing-Boing," was released in theatres. From a script by Phil Eastman, Bill Scott ("Rocky and Bullwinkle"), and Dr. Seuss, the short tale of the little boy who spoke only in sound effects grabbed an Academy Award for best animated short subect.

Born 1958: Dinah Manoff, Tony Award-winning actress, Neil Simon's "I Ought to Be in Pictures" (1980). Best remembered for her sitcoms, "Soap" (1978-79) and "Empty Nest" (1988-95).

1961: Walt Disney's "One Hundred and One Dalmatians" barked across movie screens for the first time.

1970: Robert Altman's anarchic, landmark film,  "MASH," opened in theatres.
